Heat Pump Installation
Heat Pumps
Commercial heat pumps provide efficient heating and air conditioning for manufacturing facilities, schools and similar buildings. They are also installed in specialty locations such as zoo enclosures and data centers.
How Heat Pumps Work
These systems deliver efficient heating because they do not burn fossil fuel. Instead, they use a small amount of electricity to circulate refrigerant that captures heat. In short, the heat is pumped from one location to another, giving the system its name. Ground and roof heat pump installation are options.
When in heating mode, a compressor pumps the refrigerant through outdoor coils inside a structure much like a radiator with fins. This design maximizes surface space and heat transfer from outside air into the refrigerant. Most commercial heat pumps can draw adequate heat from the air even in temperatures approaching the freezing mark.
The refrigerant carries the heat indoors to a commercial air handler unit that includes another coil. The refrigerant is forced through a valve and its heat is released. The heat radiates out from the coil. The air handler pulls cool air over the hot coil, the air picks up heat and is pushed into the building to provide warmth.
When in air conditioning mode, a reversing valve changes the direction and performance of the refrigerant. Heat is captured inside the building and is pumped outside for dispersal. As this occurs, the inside coil becomes very cold. Humidity from the air being carried over it condenses on the coil and is drained away. This lowers air humidity to produce a more comfortable indoor climate.
